Anonymous Time

Exhibition Overview

The title of the exhibition, "Anonymous Time," implies the individual experiences and memories that three artists reflect in their works through their unique perspectives and approaches. Each artwork stands as a testament to the artists' creativity, bearing witness to the distinct dimension of time and space from which they originate. They serve as records that embrace the past and present, encompassing the ordinary and extraordinary aspects of life. These artworks act as dynamic mediums, establishing a profound connection between the artists and the world they inhabit.

Through the process of creation, perception, and interaction, the artworks come to life, infused with a vibrant vitality that resonates throughout their forms. Existing as independent organic entities, they breathe and exhale fragments of their preserved memories, intertwining with the emerging dimensions of time and space where the boundaries of past and present converge. This exhibition invites visitors to embark on a transformative journey, experiencing familiar time and space in a renewed light, while attentively embracing the unique sensations conveyed by the artists.

About the Artist

Woojung Ghil

Woo Jung Ghil develops works inspired by the tranquility of nature, including mountains, water, and the strong spirit inherent in them. Ghil defines the central theme that permeates their artistic world as "Silence," which refers to "the state of tranquility achieved by blocking external disturbances and focusing on the deep-seated silence within the soul." Growing up with unique cultural experiences from various countries, the artist has evolved a meditative artistic process that explores the inner depths of the soul, rooted in contemplation about establishing personal identity. The completed artworks, achieved through the act of blending, scratching, and stroking colors, depict an ideal and comfortable transcendental space that remains undisturbed by external stimuli—a result of the artist's self-reflective journey aimed at reaching the profound core of their being.

Suyeon Kim

Suyeon Kim presents works that reveal personal daily experiences and memories using glass as the primary material. The act of "drawing" plays a significant role in the artist's creative process, akin to the visualization of everyday thoughts that cannot be described by words or language. Her expression of everyday subjects, transcending representation and abstraction, reflects both meticulous observation of the periphery of life and a unique artistic approach to understanding objects and phenomena. Through applying and scraping on glass plates with the fusion of glass threads powder and pigments obtained by melting glass, Kim's artworks manifest various forms and moods depending on the angle and intensity of light as well as the direction of the viewer's gaze, thus offering subtle spatial experiences.

Sukyung Chung

Sukyung Chung specializes in abstract glass sculptures inspired by the geometric structure and properties of architecture, exploring the artistic possibilities inherent in materials. Created through a delicate casting technique of fusing colored glass blocks together, Chung’s artwork simultaneously embodies conflicting dual characteristics such as ‘regularity and randomness’, ‘structure and unstructured’ and ‘order and disorder’. These diverse attributes revealed within each artwork stem from the organic transformation of glass shapes that occur in the uncontrolled environment of the kiln. In this fluid and transformative process, the glass pieces melt and come together, breaking boundaries and creating noticeable features that serve as records of their unity.
